At 30, Tom Willner had it all — rewarding career in technology, success as musician and composer, loving wife — ready to start a family. But one day he found a lump, and was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Willner’s cancer became his muse, inspiring a musical about his battle for survival and meaning.
Join us to celebrate the release of his book Having A Ball At Thirty: How I Got Through Cancer by Writing a Musical, and hear how music, humor, and lots of love helped an artist through his cancer diagnosis and recovery, showing how it can strengthen who you are and inspire what you can become. Willner will read excerpts from his book, and perform some musical pieces, along with his musician friends.
The Red Light Café holds special meaning, as Willner’s wife threw him a surprise 30th birthday party at the café, before either of them knew the journey he would undertake. Returning to the Red Light Café now years later, to celebrate his book launch, provides the perfect setting.
