The Tombigbees have been described as “Old-time revival with hints of folk-punk and country-blues”, but, if you ask them, they play “Starkgrass”. Join us for some Saturday Night Starkgrass, Americana, Folk and more with Trey Hawkins (of Poison Coats) opening the show!

Hailing from local open mic nights and the front porches of Starkville, Mississippi, The Tombigbees have been described as “Old-time revival with hints of folk-punk and country-blues”, but if you ask them what genre of music they play, it’s usually “Starkgrass”. The original lineup consisted of Tré “Danger” Watts on the upright bass and fiddle, Brent Varner on guitar, John Ford Harrison on banjo, Taylor Morgan on the washboard, and Hayden Ellis on mandolin. All five of the original members are from Jackson, Mississippi. During the summer of 2013, Charlie Culpepper from Boone, North Carolina, with his Piedmont style of blues guitar, found the “Bigbees” playing a local open mic night and has been a staple ever since.
The current lineup consists of Charlie Culpepper on banjo, guitar, bass and harmonica; Brent Varner on bass, guitar, dobro and harmonica; Hayden Ellis on guitar, mandolin and bass; and Anna Katherine Coker on vocals.
