Sex, Drugs & Bluegrass returns to Red Light Café and celebrates their second celebration by having duets kill it! Featuring Grits & Soul, BorderHop Trio (of Five), and The Good Natured Children, the jamming starts at 6pm and the duos start duet-ing at 8pm.
At the heart of Grits & Soul is the collaboration of Southern song crafters, Anna Kline & John Looney. Their sound is steeped in lonesome mountain bluegrass & drenched in Mississippi soul & blues. Whether performing as an acoustic duo or a full band, the Grits & Soul sound haunts you. Anna & John have a dynamic musical chemistry that shines through their heartfelt original songs & intricate harmonies. Audiences can’t help but clap & sing along. You will, too.
The release of their first full-length album, Flood Waters, follows on the heels of their appearance as a featured showcase artist at the 2013 International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass week in Raleigh, North Carolina. Grits & Soul performed in a series of showcases sponsored by Merlefest, Pinecastle Records, & The Mast Farm Inn.

BorderHop Trio, sometimes known as BorderHop Five, is the quintessential Athens band — it loves the town and loves playing music for its own sake. Their influences include Bill Monroe, the inventor of bluegrass, who back in the 40's created what was described by critics as the "high, lonesome sound." Today, the band seeks to authenticate that old-timey music, so come out and see what they've got goin' on.
