What happens when the worst happens at your show? Are you prepared to handle the worst when it occurs, in the moments when seconds count?

Production Emergencies is a course series designed to train the small-stage performer to provide lifesaving and minor emergency care to their friends, family, and castmates in the event that a catastrophic event occurs.

Part 1 will cover Basic Life Support, including CPR, Choking First Aid, Rescue Breathing, Opioid Overdose Recognition and Naloxone Administration, and basic first aid procedures for the non-medical “lay rescuer”.

This course will be taught in accordance with the 2020 American Heart Association Heartsaver guidelines, with additional material to tailor the course to small stage venues. Special attention will be paid to inclusion of our LGBTQIA and BIPOC communities, as well as individuals with chronic health conditions and disabilities.

Your instructors will be current AHA instructors and practicing 911 EMS providers, who are also members of the performing arts community.

The course will be taught at Red Light Cafe, in order to provide a comfortable and realistic venue, tailored to the unique challenges of emergencies in our performance spaces.

Class will run from 10 AM to 7 PM, with a 1 hour lunch break from 2PM - 3PM. Following completion of the class, a social will be hosted at Red Light Cafe, in order to allow time to celebrate our newly certified rescuers and provide a space for the community to socialize.

Course cost will be $75.00 per person, and will include all needed equipment, instructional supplies, books, and certification cards. In accordance with AHA guidelines for certification, a final exam will be conducted. All students who successfully complete the course and final exam will receive an AHA Heartsaver CPR/First Aid/AED certification valid for 2 years.
