Papa Jack Couch and Standard Electric

It’s been an eventful year for Atlanta’s own Papa Jack Couch, from playing at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn to a 12 day missionary tour in Belgium playing bars, churches, prisons, homes and street corners, to a recent 4 day stint in New Orleans for Folk Alliance showcases. Now he’s back at home with the band he’s so proud to be a part of, Standard Electric, with Micah Cadwell, Matt Wauchope, Robert Green and Mike Dana. They plan an energetic and interactive set with songs from both albums, (available all platforms) Meriwether (2018) and Witness Tree (2019) plus some new material that they’ll actually be working out and seeking reactions on.

Papa Jack has been described as having a vocal style evocative of Tupelo honey over burnt sourdough, and a playing style, on a ’59 hockshop Martin, just good enough to forestall eviction.  But he’s surrounded by the best musicians in Atlanta, and what he cares about are the songs, which continue to embrace the whole sweep of Americana in passion and faith and real life love.

Atlanta’s leading music critic, Chad Radford, is working on a profile piece about Papa Jack due to be released in late January, focusing on his long-ago encounters with Gram Parsons and Johnny Cash.  Links will be provided soon.
