Jake & the Beanstalk bring their bluesy, rockin', psychedelic funk, with Parker Smith, Melissa Bukovinac, and undrgrndman.
Arising from the fertile grounds of the Atlanta music scene when three Athens/Atlanta musicians joined forces with a transplant from Knoxville, Jake & the Beanstalk has quietly crafted their sound, blending an eclectic mix of blues and rock, with an itch for improvisation. Anchored by the tight rhythm section of Jeremy Friedman and Cary Dunning on drums and bass, Jordan Lee and Jake Moore utilize a dual guitar attack to shape and color a unique hybrid of bluesy rock and psychedelic funk.
Parker Smith and the Bandwith (Parker is performing solo tonight) landed their first gig in September 2010 and fans immediately took a liking to their unique sound. Musical influences range from Taj Mahal to Talking Heads, self-described “acoustic roots with electric sprouts.” However, the band members attempt to steer clear of staying in one genre. They stress their passion about playing ‘real music with real instruments’ (no computers allowed on stage), and fans appreciate the originality and roots-oriented sound. As one fan put it, “The groovy songs get your feet thumping and the slower songs reel you in giving you a chance to feel something, more than what can be said of many local acts these days.” Storytelling lyrics and wise tales accompany timeless melodies and unique arrangements with their tight-knit playing.
Parker embarked on his “Solo Flight” tour in 2012 through North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia. He continues to play solo acoustic shows around the east coast, mixing in carefully chosen covers with his growing list of originals. A compilation of recordings from the tour was released in April 2013.

As most of the other artist’s performing tonight, Melissa Bukovinac’s music cannot be boxed into a specific genre. However, it seems that anytime a girl is playing a solo show with an acoustic guitar, it could be called “singer-songwriter”. As Melissa’s 3rd person voice, I would describe it as sweet, sexy, and melodic. She is not sure yet if there will be any thrashing around since it will be a family show. This will be Melissa’s last show in Atlanta, so you don’t want to miss it!
undrgrndman is a singer-songwriter / pianist / storyteller in Atlanta, whose songs show influences from old school funk, r&b, rock, hip hop, electronic, and classical music. Rather than align to a specific musical genre, he strives to tell a story with each song. The result is a raw, aggressive, unapologetic sound with hints of artists such as Sly Stone, Prince, Trent Reznor, and James Blake.
