The Miami-based band, Electric Kif, has caught the attention of countless music lovers by capturing the energy of analog execution in the fusion of cosmic funk, rock, soul, and jazz. Their powerful live show brings an unparalleled energy and sound to the stage and displays a new experience every night. They have even once been described as “a drunken jazz fusion rage against the machine with a hit of earwax, and a cold beer.”
Originally formed in 2008, “The Kif” started as a power trio made of three eclectic musicians – Rodrigo “Digo” Zambrano on bass, Eric Escanes on guitar, and Ale Fernandez on drums. The group started with a simple trio jam that produced 6 songs in 3 quick rehearsals. Each coming from international backgrounds (France, Mexico, Costa Rica), they combined their unique sounds to create their debut live album and first self-titled studio album in 2009 and 2010. With tracks like “Landing” and “Electric Spliffs” the Kif immediately displayed their distinctive identity and energy.
As the sound continued to develop, new members Armando Lopez on drums and Jason Matthews on Rhodes joined the group. Together the quartet has been working on their next full length album set to release this summer. The album features many of Miami’s best musicians who have shown love for the band and have helped create a community of music creators in the budding Miami music scene. This scene has inspired the band to play many different styles with all of the talented musicians around the city, and these styles have melded into the Kif sound.
The band has evolved in the recent year with weekly series called Soul Session and Kif Saturdays at Lagniappe – one of Miami’s new venues with incredible support for live music. They have also traveled to Costa Rica several times for RainFest and have played festivals such as Franckestock and Carnaval on the Mile; one of Miami’s better known music festivals.
