Dannica Lowery — a soul-singing, storytelling songbird — brings her Newgrass Americana to RLC Bluegrass Thursday. Open jam at 6pm; show starts at 8pm!
Dannica Lowery is a soul-singing, storytelling, songbird from the South. Music runs hot in her veins. Her father came from a long line of bluegrass musicians, and her mother was a poet, so the universe had already dealt her the singer/songwriter cards. When she was just 13 her grandfather bequeathed to her his old guitar, and a few years later, she met a boy who gave her more than enough to write about.
After attempting to be a cog in the corporate machine, working and attending college full time, Dannica decided that her life was being wasted on things that didn't bring her, or anyone else around her, happiness. "It didn't reflect the innate creativity of my soul," she says. So, she did what any aspiring artist would: she quit her job and dropped out of school. She then loaded up her dogs and her six string, and moved to beautiful 30A at the tender age of 21 with a mission to be heard.
"I promised myself that I would never work again," Dannica says. "That I would live in a box and busk — if that's what it meant to create music, that's what I was gonna do. Fortunately, people started listening and I consider myself completely blessed to be in a position to perform regularly," she says. "There is no greater feeling than to bare my soul on these strings and have it appreciated by complete strangers."
