Eventbrite - Cedric Burnside Project w/ The Jugtime Ragband

The Cedric Burnside Project is the collaboration between Cedric Burnside (vocals, drums, guitar) and Trenton Ayers (lead guitar, vocals). Hailing from the hill country of North Mississippi, the two come together to create a sound that is, at once, both traditional blues and new-school funk. The Jugtime Ragband opens.

Cedric Burnside was born and raised in Holly Springs, Mississippi. At the young age of 13, he began touring around the world playing drums with his grandfather, North Mississippi blues legend R.L. Burnside also known as “Big Daddy”. In late 2006, Cedric & Lightin’ Malcolm teamed up and toured as “The Juke Joint Duo” which produced the award winning record, Two Man Wrecking Crew. In 2010, Cedric collaborated with his younger brother, Cody Burnside, and his uncle, Garry Burnside, to create The Cedric Burnside Project. They created a new genre of music by infusing Mississippi Hill Country Blues, Funk, R&B and Soul that will keep your foot stomping all night long! Following the passing of his brother, Cody, Cedric keeps the flame burning, touring with Trenton Ayers.

Cedric has performed and Recorded With: R.L. Burnside, Burnside Exploration, Jimmy Buffett, T Model Ford, Bobby Rush, Honey Boy Edwards, North Mississippi Allstars, Galactic, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, Widespread Panic, John Spencer Blues Explosion. Cedric also just won the 2013 Memphis Blues Award for Drummer of the Year. This is the third time Cedric has won this prestigious award.

Purists Beware! The Jugtime Ragband is not jug band, ragtime, or dixieland. It is an energetic amalgamation of all three with an early New Orleans sound. Their main influences include Louis Armstrong (Pops), the Boswell Sisters and Bix Beiderbecke. They play amazing songs composed by some of the best songwriters from the early and mid twentieth century. Their only rules: history and melody.
