The Wooks parlay a love of the rich musical and storytelling traditions of Bluegrass music into a new, old sound that embraces both a string-music heritage, and rock ‘n roll, jam, and singer-songwriter influences. Live on stage, or through the speakers at home, the Kentucky based band delivers their signature sound, “...with improv-savvy interplay that endears the band to jam music fans and bluegrass traditionalists alike,” according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
While the band -- CJ Cain (guitar/vocals), Harry Clark (mandolin/vocals), George Guthrie (banjo/vocals), and new addition Allen Cooke (dobro) -- was mostly sidelined from touring in 2020, they recorded their third studio album slated for release in Fall 2021.
Since their inception in late 2014 The Wooks have won the 2016 RockyGrass Band Competition, placed in the finals for the 2017 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, and were a 2017 IBMA Momentum Award Nominee. Their first record, Little Circles, recorded at Compass Studios and produced by Alison Brown, was #5 for the year on the Roots Music Report Progressive Bluegrass chart. Their second effort, Glory Bound, recorded in Clay City Kentucky at Ricky Wasson’s studio and produced by J.T. Cure, debuted at #2 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart.
